Since the beginning of UVMMC’s Anesthesiology Department history, the department has had a long tradition of providing excellent care to the Burlington and surrounding community. With 55 attending anesthesiologists offering a wide array of training backgrounds and clinical interests, 43 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Certified Anesthesia Assistants (CAAs), and the 27 residents and fellows, more than 25,000 anesthetics are safely performed at UVMMC every year. Working collaboratively using the Anesthesia Care Team model, we provide outstanding comprehensive anesthesia care for the following departments:

  • General/Acute Care Surgery (ACS), ENT, gynecology, plastics, orthopedics, vascular, obstetrics, cardiac*, urology, neurology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, acute pain service* (*performed by anesthesia residents)
  • Offsites: electrophysiology lab, interventional radiology, MRI, endoscopy
  • Acute Pain Service (APS): comprised of a team of attendings and residents (rotate weekly) along with permanent NPs who provide blocks and comprehensive care to pre- and post-operative patients who receive regional anesthetics and those needing in-hospital pain control

 

With a large focus on education in medicine, our department fosters the career advancement of both Student Nurse Anesthetists as well as Student Anesthesiologist Assistants. Together, our students work collaboratively alongside our residency training program to participate in the educational opportunities UVMMC have to offer. We take pride in having an impact on our medical professionals’ education and facilitating their transition into becoming strong, capable providers who will continue to provide high-quality care after their entrance into practice.
