In/Outpatient Pharmacy Technician I - Outpatient Pharmacy

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, current bargaining unit employees have priority consideration for this position if they apply within seven (7) days of the posting date. After this period, all applicants will be considered equally.

Primary Shift: 1445-2315

Secondary Shifts: 0700-1530, 0900-1730

GENERAL SUMMARY: 
The In/Outpatient Pharmacy Technician I will work under the supervision of a pharmacist in either the inpatient or the retail pharmacy as assigned.  In the inpatient pharmacy, responsibilities include dispensing and order filling, inventory controls, IV admixtures, and prepackaging.  The retail pharmacy technician will assist with order entry, filling, inventory control, insurance issues, reporting, and operating the cash register.

QUALIFICATIONS:  
Education/Skills Required:
1. High School Diploma (minimum) required.
2. Previous pharmacy experience OR valid National Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred.
3. Must pass basic Word competency.
4. Must pass basic calculations competency.
5. Must secure a Valid National Pharmacy Technician Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program. 

Full & Part Time Staff
a. Must attempt examination within 12 months of effective hire date
b. Must secure certification within 18 months of effective hire date

Per Diem Staff
a. Must attempt examination within 18 months of effective hire date
b. Must secure certification within 24 months of effective hire date

Must register with the NY Department of Education as a Registered Pharmacy Technician

Full & Part Time Staff
a. Must register within 18 months of effective hire date

Per Diem Staff
a. Must register within 24 months of effective hire date

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
