JOB DESCRIPTION:

Every patient room, clinic, laboratory, and support space depends on a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment. As a Maintenance Technician I with Facilities Management, you'll help care for the buildings and systems that allow one of the region's most critical healthcare facilities to operate safely and reliably every day.

You'll be joining our HVAC team and working alongside experienced technicians and skilled trades professionals while developing your knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and other building systems. You don't need to arrive knowing everything. Through hands-on experience, on-the-job training, and mentorship from experienced team members, you'll build the technical skills needed to troubleshoot equipment, perform maintenance, and contribute to the operation of a complex healthcare facility.

While HVAC will be your primary area of assignment and development, Facilities Management works as one team. You'll have opportunities to assist with general building maintenance and work alongside professionals in plumbing, electrical, central plant operations, carpentry, and other disciplines. If you're mechanically inclined, enjoy learning how systems work, take pride in solving problems, and want to build a career in the skilled trades, we'd like to hear from you.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on HVAC equipment, building systems, and facility infrastructure under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining air handling units, pumps, motors, valves, controls, and other heating, cooling, ventilation, and mechanical equipment.
  • Develop familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and use system information to assist with equipment, temperature, airflow, and facility service requests.
  • Perform routine inspections, identify conditions requiring additional attention, and accurately document maintenance activities and completed work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and an interest in developing technical skills in HVAC, mechanical systems, and building maintenance.
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools and learn technical skills through instruction, hands-on training, and field experience.
  • Ability to work both independently within demonstrated competencies and collaboratively as part of a skilled Facilities team.
  • Strong communication skills, reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
  • Valid Vermont Driver's License with a safe driving record.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience or vocational / technical education in facilities maintenance, HVAC, construction, mechanical work, manufacturing, automotive repair, building trades, or another hands-on technical field.
  • Familiarity with HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, or Building Automation Systems is beneficial but not required.

Every experienced technician started somewhere. As a Maintenance Technician I, you'll have the opportunity to build your skills while doing work that matters, helping maintain the environment and systems that thousands of patients, visitors, and caregivers depend on every day.
