JOB DESCRIPTION:

Every patient room, clinic, hallway, laboratory, and support space depends on a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment. As a Maintenance Technician II with Facilities Management, you'll help care for the buildings and infrastructure that allow one of the region's most critical healthcare facilities to operate safely and reliably every day.

You'll join our Carpentry team and bring your existing building-trades experience to a diverse healthcare environment. Your work will include doors and hardware, walls and ceilings, casework, finishes, and other building components throughout the hospital. You'll work alongside experienced technicians and skilled trades professionals while continuing to expand your knowledge of the systems and standards unique to healthcare facilities.

While carpentry and building finishes will be your primary area of assignment, Facilities Management works as one team. You'll have opportunities to contribute to general building maintenance, support projects, and work alongside professionals in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, central plant operations, and other disciplines. If you enjoy solving problems, take pride in quality workmanship, and are willing to apply your skills wherever they're needed, we'd like to hear from you.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on doors, hardware, walls, ceilings, casework, finishes, and other architectural and building components throughout the hospital.
  • Troubleshoot facility issues and complete repairs, installations, and modifications in support of patient care, department needs, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Respond to facility service requests and urgent maintenance needs while minimizing disruption to patient care and hospital operations.
  • Perform routine inspections, accurately document completed work, and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in carpentry, construction, commercial or institutional maintenance, building trades, or related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with common carpentry and building-maintenance tools, materials, repair methods, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot building conditions, plan and complete repairs, and work independently within demonstrated competencies.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, reliability, and willingness to develop skills outside of a primary trade.
  • Valid Vermont Driver's License with a safe driving record.

Preferred:

  • Experience with commercial doors and hardware, ceilings, walls and finishes, casework, or other institutional building components.
  • Experience working in healthcare, higher education, commercial facilities, or another complex occupied environment.
  • Vocational or technical education, trade certification, or additional experience in another building-maintenance discipline.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

  • Assigned to the Carpentry team with opportunities for continued technical development.
  • Works alongside experience technicians, licensed trades professionals, and Facilities operators.
  • Opportunities for cross-training across multiple building systems and skilled trades.
  • Opportunities for technical education, certification, and career development.

Every day, thousands of patients, visitors, and caregivers depend on the condition of the environment around them. As a Maintenance Tech II, you'll bring your expertise to the team while continuing to broaden your skills, helping ensure the hospital remains safe, functional, and ready for care.
